Assets

The Assets tab tracks the equipment that keeps the farm running — tractors, motorbikes, and pumps — in three sub-sections. It records what you've got, when it was last serviced, and reminds you when the next service is coming up.

Adding a tractor or motorbike

Tractors and Motorbikes work the same way. Tap ➕ Add Tractor (or Motorbike) and fill in:

• Model and Year
• Current Reading — the odometer or hour-meter number right now, plus a km/hrs toggle (tractors are usually tracked in hours, motorbikes in kilometres — use whichever matches the gauge)
• Manual Link — optional, see Linking an equipment manual below
• Notes — anything else worth remembering about this machine

Service reminders — what the two fields mean

Below the notes field, each service type — Oil & Filter, Grease Nipples, and Other Service — has two number fields next to it:

1. The first field sets how often that service is due, measured in distance/hours (km or hrs, matching whatever unit you picked for this asset). For example, entering 250 for Oil & Filter means "due again every 250 hours since the last oil change."
2. The second field sets how often it's due measured in days instead — for example, 180 means "due again 180 days after the last service," regardless of how much the machine has been used.

You can fill in either field, both, or neither:

• Fill in just the distance field if you only care about usage (e.g. grease nipples every 50 hours of work).
• Fill in just the days field if you only care about elapsed time (e.g. a machine that sits idle over winter but still needs an annual check).
• Fill in both and BlackCow flags it overdue as soon as either limit is reached — whichever comes first.
• Leave both blank if you don't want reminders for that service type at all. It simply won't appear as a tracked item on that asset's card.

Logging a service

1. Open the asset's card and tap ▾ Service History & Log Service to expand it.
2. Fill in the small form at the top: service type, date, the reading at the time (optional but needed for a km/hrs-based reminder to work), cost (optional), and notes (optional).
3. Tap + Log. The entry is added to the history list below, and if the reading you entered is higher than what's currently on file for the asset, the asset's current reading is bumped forward to match automatically.

Tap ▲ Hide Service History to collapse the card again once you're done.

The "Needs Attention" banner

At the top of the Tractors and Motorbikes panels, a ⚠️ Needs Attention card lists every service across every asset that's overdue or due soon — so you don't have to open each machine individually to check. If nothing is due, the banner doesn't appear at all.

Pumps

Pumps are simpler by design — there's no service-interval tracking. Add a pump with its make and model, then use ▾ Events to keep a free-form log: a date and a comment for anything worth recording (a repair, an impeller replacement, an inspection — whatever's relevant).

Linking an equipment manual

BlackCow doesn't host manual files directly. Instead:

1. Upload the manual (a PDF is fine) to Google Drive, Dropbox, or anywhere else you can generate a shareable link.
2. Make sure the link is set to "anyone with the link can view."
3. Paste that link into the Manual Link field when adding or editing the asset.

A 📄 View Manual link then appears on the asset's card, opening the manual in a new tab.
